Hi, my name is Valentina Calderón. I’m an eight year old girl from Texas who has four siblings and a dog named Snowy, the inspiration for my book.
I play the piano and love to sing, dance, bake, play with my dolls and make beaded jewelry. I really like school and never want to miss a day with my classmates and teachers. I love to go to the track every day with my brother Sebastian and my parents, rain or shine, to play and exercise, and because it makes me stronger.
I absolutely love books. I started reading when I was five. Most of the books I read now are about fiction, but am starting to enjoy reading real life stuff, you know, like autobiographies. I’ve lost track of how many books I’ve read already, guessing close to or above 2,000. The day just does not have enough hours for me to read all the books I want to read. All the librarians in my area know me. If you ever see me eating out at a restaurant with my family, you’d likely notice me having a bite with one hand and holding a book with the other. That’s me.
Reading books got me interested in writing. I started writing my first book when I was six. Oh no, don’t think it was all fun. My hand would get tired and hurt from so much writing. I wanted to quit at times, especially during the editing process, but my mom wouldn’t let me. I’m so glad she didn’t. The Covid-19 pandemic was the perfect opportunity to use my time wisely and to finish my first book. Two years later I’m so happy to be holding and reading my own book, Unipaw’s Adventures: The Friends of the Forest , which is now published and available at Amazon. I guess you can say I’m a published author. It’s a dream come true.
Unipaw is my creation and inspiration and it is based on Snowy, my sweet Bichon Frise dog. Unipaw is a kind-hearted white dog whose Unicorn horn has a power- the power to make friends! He doesn’t care what his friends look like or where they come from, all he cares about the power of TRUE FRIENDSHIPS. Join Unipaw’s adventures through the Friendship Forest as he makes new friends, helps his community, and host the biggest sleepover ever!
